Recruitment Vacancies: Pass the Interview

If you are in the process of applying for a recrutiment vacancy, naturally you may be a little nervous about the interview stage – after all your employer will be an expert at screening candidates and handling interviews, leaving you very little margin for error.

However, as with any interview, it’s important not to let nerves win the day – and there are plenty of steps you can take to ensure you come across as a confident, professional prospective employee to even the most hardened of recruitment consultants – learn how in the guide below.

How to Secure a Recruitment Vacancy: Interview Tips

  1. Be confident. Don’t betray any sign of nerves – remember this is simply a case of one recruitment professional consulting with another recruitment professional. As with any job interview, it’s essential to place yourself in a position of strength  -  and therefore exude confidence.

Carry out as much research into the recruitment consultancy as possible, finding out their favoured sectors and key clients. However, try not to appear stilted or overly prepared in your answers, as this may suggest to the interviewer a lack of charisma.

  2. Part of your job remit will be to arrange  interviews and screen candidates. Therefore, make yourself an expert on the interview process for your own interview – this will ensure you aren’t caught out (or at least are well prepared) for any curveball questions or by any unusual interview techniques.  Try and analyse as many interviews online as possible to help work on your presentation (and reactions) at interview.
  3. Guard against irrelevant responses. After researching a company and gathering information on their activities, it can be tempting to litter your answers to questions with references to this knowledge, but in some cases this can be as unadvisable as heading to an interview with no prior knowledge of the company. Therefore, try and focus on exactly what the question is asking – after all, a recrutiment consultant will be looking for someone with dynamism and focus.
  4. Finally, never underestimate the importance of good body language – but as a prospective recruitment consultant, of course you’ll already know this! Keep eye contact with the interviewer – avoiding the tendency to stare – and sit with an upright and professional – if approachable – stance. Mix in a little enthusiasm, and you could be onto a winning formula when it comes to securing recruitment consultant jobs.
