PHASES is a London-based charity and social enterprise which makes the connection between construction and homelessness. We transform empty properties into much-needed homes and we train homeless people in the skills they need to work in construction.
We are currently developing a recruitment agency-type model - ‘PHASES RECRUIT’ - which will place homeless candidates into jobs and apprenticeships with construction firms. We are looking for someone to join our small team in the role of ‘Construction Buddy’. This person will be involved in the recruitment of the initial cohort of candidates for this project and will then support those candidates, once placed. They will also support other members of our team in the initial sourcing of job and apprenticeship opportunities.
The successful candidate may have experience of working in recruitment, particularly construction recruitment, although this is not essential. A good knowledge of the construction industry and construction careers would certainly be beneficial. Similarly, experience of supporting apprentices, particularly in a construction context, would be good. Experience of working with and/or an understanding of the issues facing migrants, particularly skilled migrants, would also be a plus.
The job is full-time and funded for one year through the Enterprise Development Programme – a five year, £40m programme funded by Access – The Foundation for Social Investment and managed by a coalition of partners: Social Investment Business, the School for Social Entrepreneurs, UK Youth, Homeless Link and the Centre for Youth Impact. However the aim is to establish this project as a successful social enterprise venture leading to longer-term employment prospects.
