So what does a Graduate Recruitment Consultant role look like?

Ultimately your job as a Legal Recruiter will mean that you are responsible for successfully placing legal professionals (Paralegals, Associates, Solicitors, Partners and more) with leading law firms (magic and silver circle). To make this happen you will be carrying out many activities including:

  • Calling new or existing clients to ensure their vacancies are known to you
  • Working with clients to understand what qualities and experience they seek in a candidate
  • Creating a compelling image of that opportunity and promoting it to potential candidates
  • Finding candidate through their large and well researched database, building a network on LinkedIn attending events, gaining referrals from other candidates, head-hunting and advertising
  • Making introductions of great candidates to your clients and arranging interviews
  • Managing the feedback from those interviews and negotiating offers
  • Supporting your candidate through the offer acceptance and resignation phase

What will it take to be successful?

  • Persistence - some days your candidates are hard to find and you have to keep going
  • Resilience - some days your clients and candidate change their minds and it's frustrating, you have to discipline your disappointment
  • Attention to detail - your clients and candidate are legal professionals they won't tolerate sloppiness
  • Drive - this is a target driven environment so you should naturally thrive in a competitive environment
  • Rapport building ability - you are meeting new people everyday, you should be someone that easily gains the confidence of people and can be engaging

What do I need to obtain an interview

  • Graduate Candidates are expected to have:
  • Graduated with a 2:1 degree or above,
  • An interest in recruitment and working in a sales driven environment,
  • First class rapport-building skills and the ability to use the telephone in order to network with high level candidates and clients,
  • An interest in building a long term career in the financially rewarding legal head-hunting market.

In order to succeed in this role, you must be:

  • Degree - 2:1 (Obviously a Law Degree would be advantageous but any degree is fine)
  • A background that demonstrates competitiveness (previous work experience, sports, projects)                                                                                                      


The Rewards

  • Starting salary of c£24,000
  • Year 1 earnings - OTE £40K +
  • Year 2 earnings - OTE £60K + 
  • Year 3 earnings - OTE £80K +
